Job Description

The Manager, Product manages designated Canada Post products and/or solutions and ensures the corporation’s capability to provide these products/solutions to specification and for their performance against strategic, corporate and operating goals.

Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Manager, Product.

 

• Manages the development of product lines/solutions in order to achieve approved Corporate objectives for revenue, volume, mail preparation and net contribution.

 

• Reviews initiatives from other functions to ensure their acceptability for the point of view of product/solutions, and operational impacts, and incorporates approved changes into product/solutions plans.

 

• Monitors the effectiveness of the Corporation’s implementation of marketing, product/solutions and pricing strategies and plans. Identifies the cause of revenue and volume shortfall. Recommends corrective action as appropriate.

 

• Identifies current and future market opportunities and threats and develops product/solution strategies as the primary input for the formulation of corporate strategies.

 

• Develops integrated plans for each product/solutions line and causes Corporate functional authorities to be operationally specific in relation to the implementation of all aspects of the plans.

Job Responsibilities (continued)

• Evaluates operational, financial, political, labour, social and legal variables to produce solid price recommendations.

 

• Co-ordinates the integration and establishment of sales targets, revenue and volume forecasts, supported by Rate Planning, Sales, and operating functions, by product line, origin and destination, etc. as required for inclusion in strategic, corporate and operating plans.

 

• Acts as principal contact with manufacturers and national customer associations within a product/solutions line.

 

• Plans and controls budget expenditures in relation to product/solutions manufacture and purchase.

 

• Ensures, through succession planning and training, a continuing development of competent management for Marketing and with potential for other assignments in CPC.

Qualifications

Education

• Completed post-secondary, preferably in a related field such as Marketing or Business Administration.

 

Experience

• 3 to 5 years of relevant functional experience.

• 2 or more years’ experience in a supervisory capacity.

 

Other Candidate Requirements

• Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs.

• Excellent team building and leadership skills and experience.

• Sound organizational, analytical, judgement and decision-making skills with proven abilities in problem solving.

• Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships.

• Strong oral and written communication skills.

• One or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset.

• Understanding of communications, marketing and the mail production community (MSPs, data shops, agencies and printers).
