After the interview
The questions below relate to what happens after your interview at Canada Post.
What are the typical steps in the selection process?
1. Candidates who have been successful at the assessment and/or interview stage of the recruitment process are invited to participate in the next steps of our hiring process.
- These next steps may include a reference check and/or education verification depending on the job you’re applied for.
- It is a condition of employment with Canada Post that all new potential candidates complete the security screening process to the level required by the job function. As part of the security clearance, we will require you to complete a criminal record check through the fingerprinting process. Specific instructions will be provided to candidates who are at this stage of the selection process.
- Depending on your role that you have applied for, you may be required to complete one or more tests. Some testing could be conducted by a third-party company other than Canada Post.
2. Successful candidates will be contacted and asked to join our team.
3. Candidates who are not selected can decide to apply for another position that corresponds to their expectations and expertise.
How long does the selection process take?
Information on timelines and next steps will be given during any assessment or interview stages of the recruitment process.
I already have a security clearance; will I be required to do another one? Can I use my security clearance from the federal government for Canada Post?
You will be required to complete a security clearance with Canada Post even if you have previously completed this step for the federal government. Canada Post has its own security clearance process which is a condition of employment. All candidates must complete the security screening process to the level required by the job function.
I have been invited to participate in a Pre-placement Functional Assessment (PPFA). What is this test and what can I expect?
As part of the selection process for the Delivery Agent (Letter Carrier) position, candidates are required to complete and pass this test to ensure they have the physical abilities to perform the required job functions. Canada Post has contracted an independent company to conduct this testing.
The test takes approximately one hour and is completed by a Kinesiologist or Occupational Therapist who will guide you through several physical tests to determine your current abilities in comparison to the essential physical demands for the job. The physical tests may include lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, carrying, etc.
Should you require special accommodation, please advise the company directly using the contact information you were provided. Information received relating to accommodation needs of applicants will be addressed confidentially.
If I’m offered a job, what happens next?
The next stage is on-boarding, which includes completing several documents and signing an offer letter. We’ll also send you the information you need to prepare for your first day – and what we hope will be the start of an amazing journey with Canada Post.
What sort of training can I expect?
There are various types of training depending on the job you’ve applied for. You may be required to attend on site classroom training or complete online e-learning courses from home. There's also on-the-job training, which will help you gain the practical skills and experience you need to excel in your role.
Will I have a probation period at Canada Post?
Individuals appointed to a position in a bargaining unit shall be on probation. The duration of the probation varies based on the position and can be for the first three (3) months or the first six (6) months of continuous employment, depending on the bargaining unit.
