JOB DESCRIPTION

 

The Corporate Auditor is responsible for effectively managing Canada Post’s internal audit function in accordance with the Internal Audit Charter and the mandatory elements of the International Professional Practices Framework.  The goal of the internal audit function is to deliver a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes for all of Canada Post Corporation’s business and as directed by the Audit Committee of Canada Post.

 

 


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Corporate Auditor:


1.    Communicates and interacts directly with senior management and the Board. This includes periodically presenting, reviewing and seeking approval for the Internal Audit Charter. Elicits information from senior management on any changes to corporate activities and developments to ensure that internal audit adds value and focuses on areas of strategic importance and priority.

 

2.    Develops a risk based annual plan of Internal Audit activities that is reviewed by management and approved by the Audit Committee.


3.    Defines resource requirements for review by management and approval of the Audit Committee, providing updates and information on the sufficiency of Internal Audit resources. Ensures that internal audit resources are appropriate, sufficient, and effectively deployed to achieve the approved plan. Ensures a clearly established standard for the delegation of supervision within the organization.


4.    Provides an annual assessment to the Audit Committee of the areas of greatest risk to Canada Post and the adequacy of the system of internal control to manage or mitigate those risks. Provides ad-hoc reports for any significant findings related to the Corporation's system of risk management, control, and governance processes, and monitoring resolution of such findings by management.


5.    Responsible for Internal Audit’s overall conformance with the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing of the Institute of Internal Auditors. Discloses any non-conformance or impact to senior management and the Board. Confirms with the Board, at least annually, the organizational independence of Internal Audit.  Ensures team maintains independence, and unimpaired objectivity during all engagements.


6.    Establishes and maintains a system to monitor the outcomes of results communicated to management. Establishes a follow-up process to monitor and ensure that management understands risks identified and that actions have been effectively implemented. Communicates any unacceptable level of risk by management directly to the Board.


7.    Develops and maintains a quality assurance and improvement program for Internal Audit which covers all aspects of the internal audit activity. Communicates results of the quality assurance and improvement program to senior management and the Board.


8.    Leads in the development of a strong team through recruitment, coaching, goal setting, and mentoring. Promotes and encourages career development and advancement through instructions, guidance, training opportunities and succession planning.


9.    Coordinates with External Auditors and the Special Examiner regarding the manner by which Internal Audit can support their activities and ensure maximum reliance on Internal Audit work, in order to provide optimal audit coverage to the Corporation at a reasonable overall cost.


10.    Develops and ensures policies governing the custody, retention and access of consulting engagement records.  Ensures that documentation is sufficient, reliable, relevant and useful to support engagement results and conclusions.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education


•    Completed university degree, preferably in a related field.

 


Experience


•    7 or more years’ internal audit experience, including all aspects of internal audit methodologies.


•    5 or more years’ experience managing people.

 


Other Candidate Requirements


•    Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation


•    Strong understanding of internal audit methodologies, process/engagement-level risk assessment, and of enterprise-level risk assessments supporting annual audit planning.


•    A high degree of professional skepticism, natural curiosity, and a keen eye for detail.


•    Sound organizational, analytical, judgement and decision-making skills with proven abilities in problem solving.


•    Solid information and data analysis understanding. Experience performing data analytics an asset.


•    Good project management skills and ability to balance competing demands and a shared pool of audit resources.


•    Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience presenting to and communicating with Management.


•    Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships.


•    Excellent team building, leadership and coaching skills and experience.


•    Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs.
