Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic lawyer with strong analytical, communication and interpersonal skills to help deliver practical, business-focussed corporate and commercial legal services to a range of internal client groups.  
Legal Counsel, Corporate Law provides strategic direction and ensures the provision of legal services in a cost-effective and timely manner considering the risks for Canada Post and its subsidiaries.  
 

Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Legal Counsel, Corporate Law.

 

-Review, draft and negotiate various agreements, including procurement of goods and services. 

-Prepare legal opinions on a variety of corporate, regulatory, and other issues.

-Provide practical, strategic, business-focused legal advice in a variety of related areas, including:

 

  • Procurement (sourcing management)
  • Corporate Governance 
  • Privacy
  • Data and Corporate Security

Qualifications

Education

Law degree from a recognized institution and membership in good standing with a provincial bar.
 

  • Minimum 2-5 years of post-call experience in corporate/commercial law.
  • Experience in corporate/commercial law, including researching and drafting legal opinions, and negotiating and drafting various types of agreements.
  • The preferred candidate will have experience in tender law and in SaaS/IaaS/PaaS, software, data processing, and managed services agreements.
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams, including technology, security and privacy teams, and building strong subject matter expert relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, proven leadership capabilities and the ability to work independently.
  • Motivation, collegiality, and the ability to “hit the ground running”.
