Job Description

talented professionals and use their legal acumen to deal with a variety of challenging issues while working with diverse management clients.Legal Counsel, Labour and Employment provides strategic direction and ensures the provision of legal services in a cost-effective and timely
manner considering the risks for Canada Post.Legal Counsel protects the Corporation from legal action and ensures its business practices, policies, and dealings meet statutory and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities
• Conducts research, prepares legal opinions and provides advice to management on labour and employment law including the interpretation of collective agreements and statutes, and other legal issues.
• Provides practical and strategic advice to management on a wide variety of labour and employment law and other legal issues, appropriate to the risks to prevent potential problems, and offers support in problem resolution and decision-making.
• Keeps abreast of any changes to the relevant legislative and jurisprudential frameworks, including best practices in labour and employment law and makes any appropriate recommendations to the Corporation.
• Drafts, reviews, and revises agreements, contracts, policies and other legal documents to ensure Canada Post meets statutory and regulatory requirements.
• Represents management in labour arbitration hearings, and other proceedings, and manages external counsel.
Qualifications
Education
• Law degree from a recognized institution and membership in good standing with a provincial bar
Experience
• 3-7 years of post-call experience;
• 3-7 years of experience practicing labour and employment law and litigation;
• Excellent communication skills, proven leadership skills, and works with minimal supervision; and
• Demonstrates motivation, proactivity, and aptitude to fulfill responsibilities upon appointment to the role.

Position Occupancy
Applicants who are currently Management/Exempt term employees - it is preferred that employees perform the duties of their position for three (3) months before being considered for permanent opportunities or longer term appointments.
