Job Description

The Manager is responsible for the life cycle management of the corporate vehicle fleet including motorized material handling equipment and ancillary equipment. This involves the development of policies and procedures related to the acquisition, maintenance and disposal of fleet assets as well as accident management and fleet related training. The manager recommends long-range replacement strategies, budget allocations, cost reduction measures and opportunities to improve fleet reliability and image.

 

The Manager is responsible for the development and application of an audit plan to ensure the maintenance programs and execution of maintenance meet the test of due diligence and that maintenance is conducted in accordance with CPC environmental policies.

 

It is the responsibility of the fleet manager to keep abreast of emerging vehicle technologies and best practices in the area of fleet management and to test or implement technologies and practices that will improve the fleet operational capabilities in a cost effective manner.

Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Manager, Fleet Operations:

 

  • Determines the design specifications of CPC vehicles/MMHE, which provides cost-effective capabilities for CPC postal operations and recommends the most suitable source of vehicle provisioning, including standard commercial products, custom-built commercial products, and designed-to-order products.

 

  • Develops policies and procedures for vehicle acquisition, maintenance, disposal, driver requirements, training and accident management. Develops and implements methodologies to ensure compliance.

 

  • Implements policies and procedures and implements programs to reduce vehicle life cycle costs and reduce accident frequency and associated costs.

 

  • Manages alternate-fuel and technology programs such as hybrid, propane, CNG, diesel, electric etc. to minimize life cycle cost and impact on the environment.

 

  • Serves as the senior technical expert in the Corporation on automotive technology and fleet management practices.
Job Responsibilities (continued)
  • Prepares and manages corporate capital budgets for vehicle acquisition, maintenance programs and projects.

 

  • Liaises with equipment manufacturers, foreign postal administrations and attends professional conferences and seminars to keep abreast of emerging vehicle technologies and best practices in the area of vehicles and accident management.

 

  • Manages subordinates in the performance of their duties, including hiring, promoting, disciplining, and recommending demotion or termination.

 

  • Ensures, through succession planning and training, development of competent staff for Fleet Management.

 

  • Direct project teams for vehicles and motorized material handling and National mail processing projects, leading monitoring and controlling all aspects of the work.
Qualifications

Education

  • Completed post-secondary, preferably in a related field  OR a combination of equivalent professional experience and training


Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant functional experience
  • 2 or more years’ experience managing people
  • One or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset


Other Candidate Requirements

  • Valid Provincial Motor Vehicle Mechanic's license and/or Truck and Coach Mechanic's license
  • Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs
  • Proficient computer skills and competent with IBM Maximo
  • Excellent team building and leadership skills and experience
  • Sound organizational, analytical, judgement and decision-making skills with proven abilities in problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
Other Information
  • This position requires regular travel
  • Preference will be given to applicants that are flexible to work shift work
