Job Description

 

Reporting to the Manager, Inventory Management is responsible for the day to day planning and analysis of management of inventories for Canada Post Corporation product lines.  Analyses corporate business plan and evaluates the impact on procurement as well as the material needs of customers. Conducts detailed analysis on inventory control and makes recommendations on policy or procedural changes to maximize efficiency and profit to Canada Post.

 


 

Job Responsibilities

 

•    Make recommendations on policies, procedures and systems to ensure that inventories are managed and controlled to ensure our corporate, private sector outlets and philatelic customers are properly supplied.

 

•    Make recommendations on cost reduction for all programs and initiatives.

 

•    Initiates input and develops work on all aspects of the different planning cycles for inventory control and works with sensitive and confidential information on ongoing and future Retail and Marketing product initiatives.  The planning cycles and inventory controls are then used to determine sensitive staffing impacts at the distribution centres.

 

•    Analyses corporate business plans, evaluates the likely impact on procurement and works with the customers to plan their material and inventory needs.  

 

•    Lead project teams for all product launches related to shipment-based orders for Consumers, Dealers, Corporate Post Offices and Commercial customers.  This includes New Rate stamp Launch, Lunar New Year program, NHL, Royal Canadian Mint.

 

•    Lead project teams to manage the end-to-end flow from design to delivery of the new products.  Team members include: Product Sponsors, Sourcing Management, Vendors, Retail Service Centre, Warehouse operations and Mail Networks.

 

•    Leads the corporate audit team for the warehouse inventory counts to ensure the accuracy and proper valuation of the corporate inventory. Manages the annual Physical Inventory count at the two Retail Service Centre warehouses (operated by a third-party provider).  

 

•    Leads the semi-annual Physical Inventory count process at Corporate Post Offices.

 

•    Provides input on the criteria for successful implementation of new products including funding, costs for inventory storage, revenues, timing for implementation including inventory UPC code creation and maintenance, service to customer and performance measurement to ensure a successful product launch.

 

•    Manages Logistics production of the Order Centre, scheduling orders, returns, data entry, and order desk activity.  For the warehouse, scheduling work priorities and distribution timelines determining when overtime or additional shifts are required.

 

•    Develops, schedules and performs the analytical and modeling activities required to formulate plans and forecasts in conjunctions with Marketing and Retail functions.

•    Conducts analysis of inventory system data for accuracy and analyses trends from historical data to manage current needs and to predict future demands for usage of inventory for regular and special initiatives. 

 

•    Lead project for destruction and other dispositions of inventory. Oversees requirement to minimize surplus material or inventory to ensure the maximum return on investment to the corporation.

 

•    Management of corporate equipment including Money order imprinters and warehouse shipping systems including PC’s and electronic scales.  Managing inventory planning for Money Order Imprinters and Warehouse shipping systems.  Single point of contact for the repair vendors for scheduling and shipping of equipments for repair.  Ensure repaired equipment meets specification.  Develop disposition plan for un-repairable equipment

 

•    Represents Retail Logistics in business process improvement initiatives.

 

•    Measures the performance of operating units, identifies corrective action for failures and provides information or potential integrated solutions to the problem to satisfy the requirements of all concerned parties. (Third Party Logistics, Transportation and Retail Operations & Call Centre Processing)

 

•    Conducts financial analysis of budgets for accuracy, analyses trends from prior period and/or prior year performance to manage current needs and to predict future trends to ensure that revenues are maximized and expenses are reduced.

 

•    Prepares and distributes summary reports on distribution to the corporate and franchise networks to monitor the sell through of products, highlights any issues and provides recommendations for corrective action to resolve the issue.


•    Trains new employees.

 

•    Replaces the Manager as required.

 

•    Performs other related duties.

 


 

Qualifications

 

Education


•    A University or college degree/diploma in a related field.

 

 

Experience


•    1-3 years of related work experience is required.
