Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Technician, GIS.

  • Manages and maintains geographic and related attribute data in AMS, and other GIS software, which reflects national coverage of Forward Sortation Areas (FSAs), municipalities, street networks, addressing, and other layers of geographic importance.

  • Administers Official and Mailing Street name database relationships. Adds and updates AMS digital street networks by researching external sources including municipal GIS websites, municipal electronic map image files, provincial or municipal digital street network files, maps, and Local Delivery Unit (LDU) maps.

  • Validates and verifies the positional location of LDUs (Blockface, Community Mail Box (CMB) locations, Demand Point LVR’s, Business and Apartment Buildings) from both Routegraph/MapInfo and geocoded LDU’s currently on the AMS network reconciling discrepancies using reliable sources (e.g. Municipal GIS Website and custom Crystal Reports).

  • Updates the Georoute street network according to editing standards. Resolves outstanding issues of missing postal codes and discrepancies between measured route distances. Upon completion, uploads street network into DepotSafe for Route Measurement Officer (RMO) usage.

  • Prepares standard and custom maps requested by internal CPC clients. Creates both standard map products and thematic maps. Performs manipulative calculations to corporate spreadsheet data to integrate with spatial data in order to effectively display business spatial relationships while ensuring the information included is legible and accurate.

Job Responsibilities (continued)

  • Executes other AMS geography network cleanup activities as requested by internal and external customers e.g. localize postal code points and/or delivery facility points which are currently located on proxy point centroids.

  • Updates boundary data including Forward Sortation Area, Municipal, Provincial, Federal Electoral District, Provincial Electoral District and Letter Carrier Delivery Area (Iron Ring). Updates are performed using Topology and Validation tools within AMS using reliable source information.

  • Performs quality reviews on the work of peers. Seeks opportunities for improvement and generates ideas for continuous improvement within the team. Provides feedback and guidance to customers in order to support high corporate standards.

  • Identifies AMS defects, and their impact through participation in weekly Infoman Ticket Review sessions with Innovapost. Assists in problem replication and communicates new and revised information to the team of GIS Technicians to ensure uniformity particularly with “workarounds”. Performs User Acceptance Testing (UAT) on outstanding tickets and change requests.

  • Participates in regular team meetings with fellow GIS Technicians to discuss new and ongoing software anomalies and to share ideas.
