Job Description

The Specialist provides continuous improvement leadership and subject expertise to Operations through coaching, education and collaboration with Team Leaders and staff to help them solve problems and improve performance on key processes. Delivers training sessions to support skills development and build confidence in the correct use of continuous improvement tools. Participates actively in continuous improvement workshops with Operations to help them solve specific problems and create better performance outcomes using continuous improvement methods. Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Specialist, Continuous Improvement.

  • Works with Regional General Manager, Directors and Managers of Operations to define key processes for continuous improvement. Contribute to performance targets and expectations for Team Leaders. Works with leadership on priorities, timelines and the resources needed for the annual improvement plan.
  • Promotes improvement thinking to define operational and management best practices that support the achievement of best performance and ensure corporate service goals are met and exceeded.
  • Provides Lean Six Sigma expertise applied in an Engineering and Operations environment to improve the quality of technical, business and problem analysis. Acts as a consultant to Lean Six Sigma (LSS) practitioners to optimize the value of high priority corporate improvement projects, based at head office and in the field.
  • Delivers classroom training to leaders and employees on Lean Six Sigma (LSS) methodology. Provides coaching and technical expertise regarding lean, process management and Six Sigma. Contributes to writing and updating training material.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to engineering and operations teams (including contractors working on CPC projects) on developing design process approaches and problem-solving skills. Acts as a partner or consultant on major projects.

Job Responsibilities (continued)

  • Applies project management and business knowledge in coaching and facilitating LSS practitioners’ learning in selecting and applying the correct tools for their project to ensure the results are aligned with the business needs. Follows up with project leads to ensure learning and insights are leveraged for future application.
  • Provides statistical expertise to project leaders related to data collection and analysis for their particular situation. Directly supports them with analysis for highly unusual or complex data sets.
  • Uses proven financial evaluation methods and analysis to properly evaluate project feasibility, risk and benefits; participates in cost reduction efforts by analyzing proposals to determine viability, operations impact and return on investments.
  • Drawing on well-developed facilitation skills, provides a structured and rigorous approach to lead challenging discussions where multiple views must be considered and combined to arrive at a realistic and sustainable solutions for all stakeholders.
  • Remains up to date with Lean Six Sigma practices in other organizations. Shares knowledge at Canada Post; researches and leverages new approaches, techniques and tools.



  • A University or college degree/diploma in a related field such as Engineering.
  • Designation and or certifications programs may be required e.g. a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) license in Canada.


  • 2-5 years of related work experience is required.
  • Experience in continuous improvement within an operations environment is required

Other Candidate Requirements

  • Expert knowledge and experience with Lean, Six Sigma, Process Management and Continuous Improvement.
  • Above average skills with Microsoft suite of tools such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiarity with working in a unionized environment.
  • Ability to influence others and negotiate successfully, communicate ideas and generate consensus.
  • Excellent professional presentation and verbal communication skills.
  • Skilled at identifying customer needs and designing business processes and solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Demonstrates innovative thinking and initiative in the analysis, planning and development of projects.
