Job Description


Canada Post is seeking an experienced lawyer with strong litigation, analytical and interpersonal skills to join a collegial team of talented professionals. 

 

Senior Legal Counsel, Labour and Employment provides strategic direction and ensures the provision of quality legal services in a cost-effective and timely manner. 

 

 

 

Job Responsibilities


Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Senior Legal Counsel, Labour and Employment Law.
 
•    Represent Canada Post in all forms of labour and employment law litigation (with a focus on defending grievances concerning the terminations of employment). 

•    Provide proactive, practical and strategic legal advice to management to solve business problems and reduce legal risk.

•    Mentor Counsel and Paralegals on the Legal Affairs team.

•    Manage external counsel in civil litigation and administrative law matters, to ensure quality and value.

•    Conduct research and prepares legal opinions on various legal issues.
 


 
Qualifications


Education
•    Law degree from a recognized institution and membership in good standing with a provincial bar.


 
Experience
•    Strong communication skills, proven leadership and mentorship capabilities, and the ability to work independently; and
•    Motivation, aptitude as a self-starter, and the ability to “hit the ground running” in the new position.

•    Must have very significant litigation experience (experience in labour and employment law litigation is preferred)

•    Travel, mostly in BC and Alberta.
