Job Description

Under the general direction of the Director, Operations and in accordance with corporately established policies, procedures and guidelines, the incumbent manages the collection, processing and delivery operations in support of achieving local, divisional and national service performance and efficiency objectives.

Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Manager, Mail Operations.

 

  • Manages, directs and controls the collection, processing and delivery function in order to effectively meet established targets for service performance, productivity and efficiency.
  • Develops and implements strategies to improve upon service performance and efficiency, inclusive of contingency planning in the event of emergency situations, with the assistance of various support functions (D.C.C., C&D Services, Network, Sales, etc.).
  • Manages, directs and controls the collection, processing and delivery function to facilitate the distribution and integration of local mails with like products from regional, national and international points of origin.
  • Reviews and monitors collection, processing and delivery operations to ensure business is conducted within corporately established tolerance rates for quality measurement.
  • Implements effective financial planning and control mechanisms, in accordance with corporate policies and procedures, and monitors their implementation and use to ensure the establishment of sound financial practices.
  • Manages personnel and material costs within established budgets while determining means for cost reduction through the achievement of productivity and efficiency gains as well as effective utilization of materials and equipment.

Job Responsibilities (continued)

  • Manages and directs the introduction of corporately sponsored programs and systems or service changes through effective appropriation, delegation or assignment of resources and responsibility and ensures maintenance in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Ensures the establishment and maintenance of local and/or corporately designed reporting systems in order to provide and retain data.
  • Ensures, with the support of internal functions as well as provincial agencies and Labour Canada that the work environment is healthy, safe and secure for all resources, personnel, financial and material.
  • Identifies facility, equipment, vehicle requirements and ensures the physical state and appearance of all facilities and equipment are maintained at a high standard reflecting well on the Corporation and its employees.
  • Manages the administration of the collective agreements as well as the Canada Labour Code in association with those collective agreements.
  • Establishes and maintains good employee/management relations in order to create an environment that will facilitate the development of personnel to meet individual as well as Corporate objectives.

Qualifications

Education

  • Completed post-secondary, preferably in a related field OR a combination of equivalent professional experience and training

 

Experience

  • 3 to 5 years of relevant functional experience
  • 2 or more years’ experience managing people
  • One or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset

 

Other Candidate Requirements

  • Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs
  • Designation and or certifications programs may be required for certain positions (e.g. Finance & Engineering)
  • Excellent team building and leadership skills and experience
  • Sound organizational, analytical, judgement and decision-making skills with proven abilities in problem solving
  • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
