Job Description

The Associate, Infrastructure Investment will be actively involved with the Infrastructure team in completing new investments, management of existing investments and reporting and analytics. Is familiar with the investment industry, such as management, investment dealers or brokers, public pension plans and knowledgeable with capital markets, such as fixed income.

Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Associate, Infrastructure Investment.

1.    Analyzes market sectors to identify potential investment opportunities, prepares the Level 1 report that outlines the positives and negatives of the opportunity. Evaluates potential investments and identifies and analyzes key areas of risks and opportunity. Responsible for the financial modelling and analysis of funds, companies, and transactions.

2.    Prepares the Investment Advisory Committee / Pension Committee report which summarizes the expected return, risk and opportunities, team history, strategy, and terms.

3.    Develops relationships with potential target fund managers and key intermediaries; Attends meetings with external private equity / infrastructure managers to evaluate and assess responses to questions to track record, strategy and lessons learned to identify potential investment opportunities; Supports the portfolio management of investments, including developing direct relationships with fund and co-investment management teams. 

4.    Assists Portfolio managers in portfolio construction process to generate value-added investment strategies.

5.    Builds and maintains internal databases, financial systems and models as well as streamline operational processes.

6.    Prepares the Quarterly Investment Reports for each investment in the portfolio; Ensures the data accuracy and timeliness of day position and risk reporting of bond portfolios; Updates and manages Pipeline Reports used at weekly team meetings. Reviews information memorandums and management presentations.

7.    Responsible for supporting the completion of the Level II Due Diligence Template for new investment opportunities alongside other team members. 

8.    Attends and contributes to Pension Investment team meetings which involve discussing reports, providing helpful insights on whether the pension fund should buy or sell and what and why for public equities or debt and discussions with respect to private equity and infrastructure/fixed income. 

9.    Responsible for handling daily administrative issues related to the processing of private markets transactions.

10.    Prepares portfolio company reviews and other internal reports. Performs administrative such as filing, binder creation for new investments, other ad hoc administration, and reporting as required; Supports Pension Investment projects when and as required.
 

 

Qualifications

Education
•    Completion of a university degree, preferably business or engineering.
•    Relevant professional designation such as CFA or CPA (obtained or in progress) is an asset.
 

Experience
•    2 to 4 years relevant work experience (corporate or investment banking, equity research, consulting, accounting or transaction services).  
 

Other Candidate Requirements
•    Ability to think critically and communicate complex ideas and concepts.
•    Experience or knowledge of infrastructure investing is an asset.
•    Demonstrate a high level of motivation, energy and excitement about investments.
•    Well-developed Excel skills include creating reports, dashboards, spreadsheets and financial modelling
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
