Job Description

Reporting to the General Manager, Real Estate Investments, the Director has secondary responsibility and is actively involved in all aspects of the investment process. This role leads and supports the due diligence process evaluating new real estate direct investments including development projects and fund investments. The Director, Real Estate Investments analyzes and monitors performance of fund managers and underlying real estate properties. Preparation of internal reports and monitoring documents is required.

Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Director, Real Estate Investments.

  • Leads Real Estate investment transactions including sourcing, conducting due diligence, legal negotiations, monitoring and management post investment and advising the General Manager of potential new opportunities. 
  • Provides secondary oversight and performance analysis of all ongoing Real Estate investments that ensures the Plan has up to date knowledge of their status and is in a position to quickly take corrective action when necessary.
  • May act as the sole representative of the GM, Real Estate, at meetings of Real Estate Investment Partners or pool fund limited partners as required.
  • Conducts due diligence and recommends real estate fund and co-investments.
  • Makes presentations to the VP, Pension and CIO, Pension Committee and/or Investment Advisory Committee for approval of specific investments and divestments and for purposes of ensuring the Committees’ accurate understanding of its ongoing investments.


Job Responsibilities (continued)

  • Negotiates contracts and fees with Fund Managers and General Partners.
  • Remains abreast of real estate market conditions to ensure Canada Post Pension Plan is positioned to take advantage of emerging opportunities.

  • Researches the universe of real estate property investment and investment partners appropriate to Canada Post Pension Plan’s strategy.

  • Manages a highly skilled investment team and provides thought leadership, coaching and guidance, related to performance management, talent and succession planning and engagement.



  • Undergraduate degree, ideally with an MBA or appropriate financial training



  • 10+ year track record managing real estate investments
  • 2+ years of experience leading Real Estate investments
  • Experience completing direct investments, development projects as well as fund investments, would be an asset
  • Experience managing small teams of Real Estate investment professionals
  • Experience working with investment committees and Board of Directors

Excellent written and verbal communication skills – proven ability to make concise and informative presentations
