Job Description

The Officer, Product Pricing and Planning is accountable for all activities related to the evaluation of business cases in support of the Corporate decision-making and approvals process to ensure that Corporate product costing and pricing activities are consistently applied to all costing activities.

Job Responsibilities

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Officer, Product Pricing and Planning.


  • Reviews current and previous business cases for costing and pricing to ensure consistent application of all product costing and pricing activities. Conducts business cases with a view of competitive implications.


  • Conducts timely analysis of product, customer specific, industry specific, revenue models and makes recommendations to senior management.


  • Develops sensitivity analysis and conducts option analysis to support product line pricing decisions, reviews business case proposals to ensure consistency with product specification, rate, and accounting (consistent billing approach) policies, and assesses alternative options for business case proposals and provides recommendations.


  • Provides the theoretical framework for the development of product costing methodologies and concepts appropriate for a wide variety of applications (financial evaluations of products in all stages of their life cycle: mature products, new products, one-time products, etc.).


  • Develops, reviews and maintains a product specific data base of information on product characteristics, prices, costs, specifications, competitive offering, and contribution forecasts and product profitability to the client groups and senior management potential areas of opportunity and improvements.

  • Develops and maintains an effective liaison with management clients and representatives of various Corporate support groups in a professional manner, including demonstrating sensitivity to external and internal political considerations.


  • Provides planning, budgeting, forecasting, financial and performance measurement, verification, analysis and reporting services to the Area level functions. Prepares expense/revenue targets, plans, outlooks, forecasts and detailed costs projections ensuring that results meet Senior Management guidelines. Provides functional assistance, advice and service to the Area Directors and ensures that area plans and budgets are achievable, consistent with Corporate directions.


  • Monitors area achievements against Commercial Operations plans and budgets. Assists area vice-president, area directors and area managers to isolate variances and identify, document and monitor the implementation of appropriate remedial actions. Develops methodologies to allocate equitable divisional expense/revenue targets to the Divisional and Area Directors.


  • Prepares consolidated revenues/expense analysis and forecast for Central in accordance to Corporate and Area guidelines.


  • Provides forecasting, financial and performance measurement, verification, analysis, recommended improvements and reporting services to Management.



  • Completed post-secondary education in a related field, commerce, finance, economics, accounting, business administration.



  • Relevant professional designation (CPA, (CA, CMA) or GGA) or 2 to 5 years of relevant functional experience in business and financial analysis project management and business analyst documentation.
  • 1 or more years’ experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience with SAP Business Warehouse, Relational Database Design and Management (SQL), MS Access and MS Excel plus Financial Modeling.

  • Sound organizational, analytical, judgment and decision-making skills with proven abilities in problem solving.
  • Solid interpersonal skills with an ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • One or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset.
