Job Description
The Specialist, Engineering Design and System Administration performs duties related to the on-going development and support of Engineering systems and design. Is responsible for the on-going planning, development, modification, implementation, maintenance and releases of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and/or Product Data Management (PDM) Systems as well as related hardware, software, data and content. Participates or leads in the on-going design, planning, development, implementation, configuration and maintenance of specifications and standards for engineering drawings, specifications, processes and software; manages related technical documentation, changes, configuration control and document control of data. Provides Computer Aided Design (CAD) expertise as a design Subject Matter Expert (SME), demonstrating best practice usage and ongoing support to the user community.
Job Responsibilities
Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Specialist, Engineering Design and System Administration.
- Administers PLM and PDM systems by searching, analyzing, evaluating, predicting and determining technical needs for maintenance processes and development support of engineering systems.
- Reviews, evaluates and conducts preliminary feasibility studies with respect to proposed changes, enhancements and/or development.
- Responsible for the needs determination, planning, development, organization, upgrade, modification, testing, training and deployment of software applications for continuous development and support of PLM and/or PDM systems and interfacing systems and outputs.
- Responsible for the collection, building, organization, modification, accuracy and control of data/information related to PLM and/or PDM systems using database tools, CAD expertise and emerging technology.
- Manages the technical documentation to ensure that it accurately reflects the current state of all applicable specifications, processes and data. This includes creating, revising and updating: drawings, specifications, alerts, and modification instructions to document new designs and changes to CPC equipment and systems.
- Provides engineering design, technical support and subject matter expertise (SME) in CAD, including installation, configuration, training, design and best practice usage. Reviews, analyses and evaluates CAD software application and selects new software, updates to existing software or techniques to increase the cost effectiveness and/or efficiency of CAD. Recommends and manages training program for CAD software and systems.
Job Responsibilities (continued)
- Maintains an awareness of emerging technologies and proposes changes with regards to evolving computer technology for CAD and engineering systems. Identifies and recommends technological needs and specific long-term programs to be included in related investment programs.
- Manages applicable engineering systems annual budget. Prepares budgets, statement of work and cost benefit analysis. Prepares cost forecasts from internal/external sources and establishes budget plan. Administers contracts from setting requirements through execution. Certifies that services rendered by contractors, suppliers meet service agreement and determines contractor performance. Manages applicable changes and contract requirement documentation including all change process documentation.
- Establishes/manages project teams using internal and external resources as appropriate; establishes schedules and budgets and determines monitoring and reporting processes; reviews project work and resolves team and project problems, ensuring compliance with CPC procedures.
- Ensures the satisfaction of user needs by proper response to the demands or suggestions from the managers of user community and other Canada Post Corporation groups pertaining to engineering equipment and systems to fully meet Canada Post Corporation requirements.
- Ensures engineering systems software and hardware operate efficiently and as intended on CPC network infrastructure and interfaces with IT service providers to CPC for hardware selection, software testing and integration for release to end users of engineering systems.
Qualifications
Education
- A University or college degree/diploma in a related field.
Experience
- 2-5 years of related work experience is required.
Other Information
Civil Engineering degree (or equivalent) preferred from a Canadian institution with the EIT designation or P Eng preferred.
Knowledge/Skills
- Concrete and pre-cast concrete design standards for Canada.
- Roadside design considerations and applicable municipal or provincial standards.
- Mechanical assemblies interfacing with concrete and similar structural design.
Experience with:
- Quality management in the construction industry.
- Generating reports, data analysis and quality management.
Proficient with CAD and engineering software.
